MartÃn Melitón Pablo de Sarasate y Navascués (1844-1908), the greatest Spanish violin virtuoso and composer of the 19th century, was once called a genius by a famous critic.
In reply, Sarasate said, "Genius? For 37 years I have practiced for 14 hours every day, and now they call me a genius?"
