There Were Nearly a Million Black Farmers in 1920 — What Happened?

In the year 1920, the number of Black farmers in the U.S. peaked at 949,889. Since then, however, that number has never increased and instead has consistently spiraled downward. Today, there are merely 45,508 Black farmers, most of whom are struggling to make a decent living. It's no surprise that racial discrimination is the main reason why!

Black Kings (and Queens) Ruled Europe For Almost 700 Years

History confirms that the Moors ruled in Europe -- primarily Spain and Portugal -- for almost 700 years. They were known for their influence in European culture, but not many people know that the Moors were actually Black.

Atlanta’s First Black Millionaire Started Out as a Barber

Alonzo Herndon is best known as the first African-American entrepreneur from Atlanta to become a millionaire. He was born in 1858 into slavery to a Black mother and white father who was likely his mother's slavemaster. He went on to be a sharecropper, and in 1878, he trained to become a barber. This eventually created an opportunity for him to own and operate three large barber shops in the Atlanta area that served prominent white men.

Poor, rich country

Poverty in America • Europe’s economic woes • Taxes in Japan and India • Corbyn breaks a record FIFTY-FIVE YEARS since Lyndon Johnson, stooping on a porch in Inez, Martin County, Kentucky, declared a “national war on poverty”, America remains an outlier in international comparisons. When assessed on poverty—the share of families making less than 50% of the national median income after taxes and transfers—it is among the worst-performing in the OECD club of mostly rich countries. A  special report  in  The Economist  this week asks how one of the richest countries in the world can have so many poor people, and asks what can be done about it. A survey this week revealed  the extent of Germany’s economic angst . The purchasing-managers’ index, which gauges manufacturing activity, showed the sharpest decline since 2009. Many of Germany’s problems stem from supply disruptions at home. But Europe has suffered collateral damage in the trade war between America and China. So, with its la

Reno Omokri claims these monumental structures in Western countries are "dedicated to satan" then shares biblical passages to back his claim

Reno Omokri shared photos of some structures built in Western countries and alleged that they are dedicated to satan. He then shared biblical passages to back his claim. He shared photos of structures in London, Rome, Washington D.C. and New York and said they are the "Asherah Pole, a pagan idol" which "God detests and warns believers to avoid".  He wrotes:         1 Kings 16:33, 2 Kings 23:6, Deuteronomy 16:21, Exodus 34:13 and many other verses of Scripture instruct us that an Asherah Pole is a pagan idol God detests and warns believers to avoid. But what is an Asherah Pole? Google it and check the images that describe it. An Asherah Pole is simply a phallic pole dedicated to satan. Almost all major cities in the West have an Asherah Pole hidden in plain sight!? #TableShaker   kk

BBNaija: Drama as Ike sees Mercy's nakedness in the bathroom (Video)

Big Brother Naija housemates,  Mercy  and  Ike  this morning exchanged words over issues bordering on privacy. It would be recalled that the duo who jointly hold the Head Of House position now share the same room which is one of the benefits attached to the position. According to  Mercy, Ike  has the habit of barging into the bathroom whenever she was taking her bath and she feels that behaviour should stop to avoid future disagreements. Ike in turn stood his ground explaining that he wasn't looking at Mercy's nakedness and that the curvy lady has also given him a similar treatment in the past without any objection from him. The duo have become a fiery couple calling each other out at irregular intervals and also making up. https://www.fxtm.info/naira-trader?utm_source=dv360&utm_medium=prospecting-custom-intent&utm_campaign=naira-trader&utm_content=300x250&dclid=CjkKEQjwibzsBRCkyYPn9cW-7OQBEiQAJdD2Y6byFn-UQe-V7vyrMhP30lbctkGtleNja92pRXxqICXw

Raspberry Pi Or Arduino? Here’s Which Board Is Best For Your Project

Raspberry Pi and Arduino are two valuable tools for those who like to play around with electronics. Both these tools are very popular and are also very pocket-friendly. Each of them has their own pros and cons and also their own particular application. But how to decide which one is better for your projects? Raspberry Pi is a system-on-chip or SOC. It runs a version of Linux called Raspbian. It also teaches the user while they are working on it. Arduino is a micro-controller that has a hugely supportive community and a lot of expansion options as well. On the release of Raspberry Pi, it was speculated that Arduino might end now. However, Raspberry Pi and Arduino perform different tasks and both have their disadvantages and advantages over each other. Let’s have a look at Raspberry Pi and Arduino one by one to develop an understanding of them. Raspberry Pi The Raspberry Pi is a small computer on one board. It has a delicate processor, memory, graphics driver and input ou

I use to think Pastor @ProfOsinbajo was very intelligent until he threatened to sue @Google over a blogger‘s video.-Reno Omokri

I use to think Pastor @ProfOsinbajo was very intelligent until he threatened to sue @Google over a blogger‘s video. You are a professor of law. Google is just a host! Where is their liability? Is Osinbajo overrated? I never watched the video, but I understand it was also uploaded on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Will Osinbajo sue them too? Nothing has damaged the aura of intelligence around Osinbajo as his threat to sue Google. Google’s turnover in a year is more than Nigeria’s annual budget. And Osinbajo wants to sue them for hosting a video? With people like these in charge, no wonder Nigeria is now owing P&ID $9 billion. # TableShaker # FreeLeahSharibu   # RenosNuggets

Netherlands Will Build A Solar Farm That Will Float On The Ocean

In the Netherlands, there is no space on the land where the government can install the giant solar panels. The land is premium in the country so the cost of building large solar farms is much higher than building them anywhere else in the world. This issue has caused the Netherlands to stay behind in the race as compared to other countries when it came to transitioning to renewable energy. As a solution to this problem, Netherlands is now considering building solar farms on the surface of the ocean. Reuters reported that an offshore seaweed farm will be turned into a floating solar farm in next three years. This way solar-power can be provided in the country. Before beginning the project properly, a test will be performed. A 30-square meter solar farm about nine miles off the coast of Hague will be the test subject here. The farm will be located between the two offshore wind turbines and connected to the same cables. So the project won’t be needing any extra infrastructure. If th

Britain's Prince Harry will visit on Friday a previously landmine-infested area in Angola.

Britain's Prince Harry will visit on Friday a previously landmine-infested area in Angola that featured in some of the most famous pictures of his late mother Princess Diana, who campaigned for a global ban on mines. Harry, his wife Meghan and their four-month-old son Archie, arrived in South Africa on Monday for their southern African trip, their first overseas tour as a family. They drew crowds of well-wishers on their first three days in Cape Town, where they visited non-g overnmental organizations working with vulnerable communities and the youth and met Nobel Peace Prize laureate Desmond Tutu. While Meghan and Archie stayed in South Africa, Harry headed to Botswana on Thursday, where, addressing climate change, he warned the world faces "a race against time" and that "no one can deny science". On Friday, he will visit a de-mining field outside Dirico, a town in Angola's Cuando Cubango province, where he is expected to remotely detonate a mine

Citrus climate-change worry.

Major US citrus producer Florida lost 75% of its crops to storms reportedly linked to climate change, giving a marketing opportunity for Africa's citrus producers South Africa, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, etc. But the next storms may well hit those countries.

U.S.-funded clean minerals project raises concerns in Congo

Democratic Republic of Congo plans to look into potential conflicts of interest in a U.S.-funded project to certify mines that produce minerals such as gold and tin responsibly, a Congolese official told Reuters. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is using non-governmental organisation Pact to help the Congolese government identify which sites are free of human rights abuses, such as child labour, and don't fund conflicts. Pact also works in Congo for ITSCI, the main private sector scheme monitoring mines for abuses, and the government is worried Pact's decisions on which sites are fit for purpose could be skewed by its relationship with ITSCI. "We are going to look at whether there is a conflict of interest. We need to implement controls on the project to ensure that there is no conflict of interest regarding ITSCI and Pact," said Joseph Ikoli, secretary general of Congo's Ministry of Mines, adding that the govern

US Returns Looted Relics from Egypt

US authorities have returned a stolen coffin to Egypt, two years after it was acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in  New York City. The 2,100-year-old coffin of a priest called Nedjemankh was featured in an exhibit housing artefacts from Egypt. The stolen antique was sold to the museum by a global art trafficking network, which used fraudulent documents. The gilded coffin was looted and smuggled out of Egypt in 2011. The coffin, which dates back to the 1st Century BC, was bought by the prestigious museum for $4m from a Parisian art dealer.

Here’s Why You Should Factory Reset Your Smartphone Every Few Months

Do you own a smartphone? How often do you factory reset it? Never? Allow us to help you understand how completely wiping your smartphone every few months can be of great significance to you. Basically, what we are suggesting is that you erase all content and settings from your smartphone and build it again from the factory settings. The benefit? You won’t have to go through the cumbersome task of clearing out old files or apps. Furthermore, all of your vital stuff is already backed up on the cloud. Your SIM card is your phone number, and as long as you have access to your Google Photos or iCloud, you are good to go. As for the clean wipe, it will help you get rid of the old files from your smartphone. A clean slate, if you will. The performance benefits might not be that obvious, but this approach actually helps you become more productive. How? Don’t simply install back all of the apps. Rather, spend some time without installing apps and then install them as time goes by, and the

The Triple-Camera Layout Of iPhone 11 Is Funny But Super Powerful Too

The new three-camera layout introduced by Apple via its iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max may look funny –  this is how Twitter reacted  – but it is too powerful. You can joke all you want about it, but at the end of the day, it is a beast that can really enhance your photography skills. The three-camera design comes with an ultra-wide lens that can allow you to capture more of what is in front of your frame. This makes it perfect for use in the moments when you can no longer back up anymore for taking a picture. The next stop includes a wide lens, and the final stop is at the Telephoto camera that can allow users to zoom in twice further than ever before. However, the real magic happens when you combine the data obtained from all of the three sensors. You can not only take much better low-light shots but can also create professional-grade cinematic videos without breaking a sweat. Each camera lens is capable of recording 4K video at 60 fps. The latest iOS 13 software also bri

The World’s First Military Submarine Was A Wooden Barrel And This Is How It Looked Like

Aniqa Ajmal The idea of having a boat that can submerge in water and can cruise below the enemy has fascinated every military leader since forever. There is also a legend that says that Alexander the Great put himself into a primitive form of the submersible boat to carry out underwater reconnaissance. Among the early concepts of underwater rowing boats, one was given by an Englishman named William Bourne in 1578. But till 1620 the plans were not put to the application until the Dutchman Cornelius Drebbel realized the concept and started working on it. Drebbel’s submarine was built with wood and had propellers to keep the boat floating under water for several hours. The boat was attached with tubes to bring air from the surface for the crew. When he demonstrated his boat for the first time on the River Thames while staying underwater for three hours, rumors started that the men have died and disappeared in the river. The Dutch poet and composer, Constantijn Huygens, witnessed t

Friday, 27th September, 2019 The World Bank Doing Business (DB) team has just announced Nigeria as one of the top-20 improvers in doing business out of 190 countries. This announcement comes ahead of the 24th October release of the 2020 World Bank Doing Business rankings. It also acknowledges reforms carried out in some of the World Bank Doing Business indicator areas such as starting a business, registering property, getting construction permits, getting electricity, enforcing contracts, and trading across bo

Sowore: DSS blocks two attempts by court bailiff to re-serve court order

The Department of State Service has twice on Friday blocked a bailiff of the Federal High Court in Abuja from effecting a fresh service of the court order for the release of the convener of #RevolutionNow protest Omowole Sowore. It was learnt that the bailiff first arrived the DSS headquarters in Abuja, where he (Sowore) had been held since August 3, 2019, around 9.30 a.m. on Friday, but was asked to return by 12 noon when the Director-General of DSS, Yusuf Bichi, would be around. But it was learnt that the bailiff returned to the DSS headquarters at 12.14 p.m. on Friday, but was denied access. One of Sowore’s lawyer, Sam Ogala, who was at the main gate of the DSS office during the bailiff’s attempt to serve the security agency, confirmed the development to our correspondent. Sowore’s legal team led by Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), had on Thursday expressed shock over DSS’ claim that it had not been served with the order issued by Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuj

Nigerians In Diaspora Should Learn Good Behavior.

Let me first of all say that I am not trying to be tribalistic here or referring to all Nigerians in diaspora as the same. I know there are many good and humble fellows out there who know why they left Nigeria and are making positive impacts. I lived in a country years back which was dominated by the yorubas and if you see how some of them behave you will really ponder how they keep succeeding in living in that country. No respect for their host citizens, always feeling they own the country especially some that have made money. I was in a Nigerian restaurant one day and one man who was older than me came and started speaking Yoruba for me just like that. Out of respect I told him I don't understand the language and then he asked me if I wasn't a Nigerian. I told him I was a Nigerian but obviously Nigeria is not an all Yoruba country. The had the guts to open that stinking mouth of his that I know is already caused to tell me that I should question God to ask why I wasn't bo
