Jerry John Rawlings took power in Ghana after a military coup on June 4, 1979, and handed over to a civilian government after just 112 days. The civilian president, Hilla Limann promptly retired Rawlings from the Ghana Air Force.
However, Rawlings regained power by overthrowing the weak civilian government of Limann on December 31, 1981, just two years after, and imprisoned the president with some 200 other politicians.
