2016- Lieutenant-Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali, a Nigerian Army officer who commanded the Army's 272 Tank Battalion, is killed with six others in an ambush by the Boko Haram insurgents in Fatori, Borno State. He was 36.

Abu Ali who hailed from Bassa in Kogi State was posthumously promoted from Lieutenant-Colonel to Colonel in 2016. Also, the Nigeria Army shooting range in the Sambisa forest is named after him.
