*Understanding why Nigeria closed its border:* (c) GNEWS NIGERIA

"Benin Republic has a population of 12 million people. But it is the worlds 5th importer of rice. In 2018, it imported rice worth US$996m. Benin is also world's largest importer of used cars and second-hand clothing. All with a population of only 12 million people. Do you wonder how? Don't! 98.2% of these imports into Benin are only on transit. Their final destination is Nigeria! Nigeria is world's largest consumer of used cars and second-hand clothing, and is also Africa's largest consumer of Asian-grown rice. The problem here is that all these imported goods attract appropriate import duty and trade tax, which are paid to the Beninoise Government while the goods are thence SMUGGLED into Nigeria WITHOUT ANY PAYMENT to the Nigerian Government, thereby, adding zero value to the Nigerian economy! Sadly, THIS IS ALL DONE BY NIGERIANS! Granted, ECOWAS/CEDEAO charter allows for free trade between member states, but on goods produced in member countries, and...

What The Igbo Race Can Learn From Mark Twain. By Reno Omokri

I urge every Igbo man, woman and child to read the essay by Mark Twain, titled ‘concerning The Jews’ and first published in the March 1898 edition of Harper’s Magazine. Though what that renowned journalist wrote is old, (over a hundred years), it still holds a lot of wisdom to give out to Jews, and to nationalities who have Jewish tendencies, such as Nigeria’s Igbos. First and foremost, let me say that if you are a follower of Christ, you must accept that Jews are very shrewd people, because even Christ alluded to their shrewdness in John 1:47. That verse reads: “Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!” As a result of their culture, every ethnic nationality has their good and bad qualities. We are all human, and that means we are far from perfection, and when I read Mark Twain’s piece, I realised that if the Jews had heeded some of his counsel, they would have fared better, politically, than they did before 1948. ...

We have been constrained to issue this statement in reference to the above statement credited to the person of the Chairman of Innoson Vehicles Chief Dr Innocent Chukwuma OFR. Ordinarily we would have ignored the statement and the publication in its entirety which appears to have gone viral in most social media platforms, knowing fully well that this is the handwork of mischief makers, but in a nation where silence may be seen as admission of the truth, we have been constrained to come out to officially ask the public to disregard it and set the record straight. 1. There has never been any order and there will never be any order either from the Federal Government or its agencies to Innoson Vehicles to relocate his Vehicle Manufacturing Plant which is based in Nnewi to Lagos, Kaduna o...

They may attack me now but it doesn't matter... This particular Road is called  # LagosLine  Located in Ogrute the Headquarters of  Igbo-Eze North LGA  of  # Enugu   # State . It's just a minor road that lead to the Market off the popular Japan Road. Some months ago, Mini-shops along this Road were destroyed by the Local government, Because according to them they are building a new standard road. Months have come and gone and what they could only achieve was constructing a  # miserable   # looking   # gutter .. Adding an increase to the sufferings of the masses that carry goods to the market on daily basis, displacing poor traders of their shops and mobile shops. The local government shouldn't start what they know they can't finish. The Road was even manageable before the nonsense work came.

More Chinese are home schooling their kids

Officials fear they may not learn enough party propaganda A  sign on   the door of Yuan Honglin’s ocean-front townhouse in the southern city of Xiamen says “study at home”. To Mr Yuan that means “instead of going to school”. That is what he decided was best for his daughter, Xiaoyi, when she grew bored with kindergarten in 2002. He withdrew her and became her full-time teacher for the rest of her school career. It was a radical choice. In the West home schooling, once regarded as eccentric, has become more popular in recent decades. In China officials are wary. They say schools play a vital role in turning children into “builders of socialism”. But growing numbers of Chinese parents are rebelling. It was not easy for Mr Yuan, a think-tanker turned businessman. Official permission is required for home schooling during the nine years of compulsory education, which usually spans the period between the ages of six and 15. It is given only in rare circumstances, such as when a...

The lessons of a shootout in Sinaloa

The Mexican president’s security strategy is not working THE GUN battles on the streets of the Mexican city of Culiacán was, once again, a tale of organised crime against the disorganised state. It started as an attempt by soldiers and other armed law enforcers to arrest a prized target: Ovidio Guzmán López, whose father, Joaquín (aka “El Chapo”), once ran the Sinaloa drug gang and is serving a life sentence in an American prison. Chapo Junior now leads one of the gang’s factions, along with his brother. But soon after the security forces nabbed him on October 17th, reinforcements from the family business arrived. As lorries burned and bullets cracked, bystanders cradled children and fled. At least eight people died in the shootout. Outnumbered, the soldiers let Chapo Junior go free. This was a novel kind of failure for Mexico’s authorities. Shootouts have been commonplace since 2006, when the then-president, Felipe Calderón, mobilised the army to fight drug gangs. The state has al...

THE MONSTERS BRED BY NIGERIA'S INACTIVE GOVT.

I did these updates (shots attached) on my WhatsApp status fortnight ago, then felt like keeping their screenshots later, only to stroll to Twitter this morning and the gross abuse of employees by employers is the hit trend. Seriously, we need to treat ourselves with some more respect. For you bosses everywhere, you're not demigods, you're all humans like your employees! True, our labour law in Nigeria is as good as a wheelbarrow  which ability is not felt until it is pushed by the force of public opinion or social media influence. But taking advantage of this policy weakness to met inhumane treatment to your staff for the usually poor pays is on another level of wickedness. I hope madam Glory and her (husband) partner gets through this scandal and come out better people. By  Godwin Collins Obekpa

Flying in an aircraft is an amazing experience, however  one of the drawbacks is the fact that you have to share the lavatory with a few hundred persons who have varying hygiene standards and it won’t be cleaned properly until the plane touches down. Boeing is working on a revolutionizing self-cleaning airliner lavatory that will render itself hygienic and will feature non-touch technology along with UV light that will kill 99.99% of germs within 3 seconds. The lavatory is still in prototype phase and being developed as we write this. It makes use of a hands-free door latch and features a faucet, soap dispenser, toilet lid, rubbish flap, seat and a hand dryer. It also sports a vacuum vent system that sucks away particulates. As the final touch, it features an array of ultraviolet lighting strips that get activated as soon as the passenger leaves the cubicle. This UV light is the same Far UV light that is used in medical sterilization systems, vacuum cleaners  and air cl...
